Dear Upper School Parent,
Our curriculum is rigorous, providing Advanced Placement, honors and college preparatory courses in the verbal disciplines (English, history, and world languages) and the analytical/quantitative disciplines (mathematics, science and computer science). Additional courses are offered in the aesthetic disciplines (fine and performing arts), and physical education (wellness, life management skills, and personal fitness). The Upper School is a student-centered, college preparatory school designed to challenge students to fulfill their academic and personal potential.
The Upper School faculty is talented, committed, and eager to teach their students. They are committed to excellence in both teaching and learning. It is their own participation in the world that entices them to introduce new courses that meet the changing demands of our interdependent world. We offer a Post-AP Computer Programing course teaching students Swift, the new programming language to create iOS and Mac OS X apps, and an Independent Research course where students will develop an approved research project under the guidance of a research advisor. The English Department is implementing a Literacy Coaches program by assigning students to assist with reading and writing in grades 6-12 English classes. No student can fail to be encouraged by the example of our talented faculty.
Working closely with the Dean of Academic Affairs and the College Counselors, each student entering the Upper School develops an academic plan that is carefully designed to achieve long-term goals. Academic plans may vary according to the strengths and interests of individual students. Ongoing academic advising takes place at each grade level and throughout the school year. Our mutual goal is to craft an academic program that is both challenging and realistic so that every student has excellent college options, ideally suited to career goals and personal interests.
If you visit our campus in sunny Southwest Florida, you'll see for yourself why so many families describe CSN as a school with uncommon warmth and intellectually vibrant, happy students. I hope you'll be inspired to see our school and its unique program in action. I look forward to welcoming you to Community School of Naples.Mr. Eric MilesHead of Upper School
