May 7, 2020 Coronavirus Update from Head of School: May 7 2020 Dear Colleagues, Students, Parents and Friends,
Did you ever see the beautiful ballet, Swan Lake, with music by Tchaikovsky? When you think of a swan on a lake, you see it gliding effortlessly on the water. You do not see the peddling and splashing going on under the surface, to make the swan look serene and calm. At the moment at school, we are working very hard indeed, under the surface, as it were, to ensure that we finish the current year as strongly and as safely as we can, while also planning for a similarly positive and safe start to next school year in August. Your teaching team here and others at CSN are diligently ensuring the former. Your Senior Leadership Team and others are working hard to plan for the latter. We are putting strategies in place over the summer, which will show that the Community School of Naples will again demonstrate to parents the difference which CSN can bring to the lives of all our students.
That CSN difference will include enhanced and frequent cleaning measures in all classroom and teaching areas, use of advanced technology to assure teaching options across grade levels, and increased training and staffing in key areas to assure the safety of our community and the effectiveness of our teaching program. Over the coming weeks and the summer break, we will be communicating our plans as we look forward to a positive restart in August. Watch this space.
A special little highlight for me this week was the enchanting ball toss video from the Lower School students. Well done, boys and girls! (And thank you Mr. Schalmo for putting it all together).
As senior parents will know, we are planning on celebrating our Class of 2020 students in an outdoor Graduation on May 29th (time TBD). Again, CSN is leading the way to make every effort to accomplish our mission safely and beautifully. More on this in the weeks to come.
Finally, look out this Sunday in the Naples Daily News for our complete College Acceptance List for the Class of 2020. Our students and teachers have done an incredible job. Their success is the success of every one of their teachers over the years at CSN, as well as their parents and the students themselves. As this most unusual of school years rolls imperceptibly along, we take pride in the moments of achievements of our students and our school.
So as always, keep calm, carry on and, as Tchaikovsky might have been told by his mom, even on his birthday (today): Вымой руки.
More on Monday.
Kind Regards, Dr. David Watson Head of School
