Dear Lower School Parents,

This year, our students have been working diligently on the many aspects of literacy: reading, writing, phonics, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary.  I am so proud of all the gains our students have made, and we certainly do not want to lose this momentum during the summer months. According to research provided by Scholastic, teachers typically spend between four to six weeks re-teaching material that students have forgotten over the summer.

To ensure that students in rising grades K through fifth maintain the skills they learned over the school year, we have decided to once again use the Language Arts Summer Skills workbook. These lessons will provide a quick review of the material that students learned this year in reading, writing, phonics, and grammar. Students should complete these lessons a few times a week, just as they will be doing for math. The Summer Skills workbooks include an answer key and a suggested reading list.

I know that summer is a time to relax and spend time with family, but I strongly urge students to work on this workbook throughout the summer and, of course, continue to read books. Also, please consider the Summer Programs offered at CSN for additional learning opportunities which can be accessed by using the link provided below.
