Music Throughout the Ages

December is a musical month on the CSN campus, with students from all three divisions performing for their parents as well as our faculty and staff.

Kindergarten and 1st grade classes recently celebrated the season with outdoor concerts in the Shea Amphitheater. Decked in holiday outfits and winter hats, the children sang their hearts out! Highlights include The Florida Kids Jingle Bells with the 1st graders all playing jingle bells, and A Nice December Day with handbell players and soloist Sawyer Fleming. Kindergartners had a blast with their candy canes in Peppermint Candy Cane and dazzled us with their sign language in A Time for Love. They all did a fantastic job!

That same week the LS Band and Strings (grades 2 through 5) put on their winter concerts in the lovely Lakeside area behind the LMA.  It is amazing to see how these younger students grow and progress on their musical journey – Bravo!

One evening during the week, the MS Band and Strings classes performed Lakeside, again a perfect setting for entertainment.  The MS Band wowed the audience with concert band and jazz/pop songs, several arranged by Dr. Chapman himself.  Afterward, the MS Orchestra was in top form playing music from Bach and Mozart to exciting modern orchestra arrangements.  It was an exciting night for all of the performers, teachers, and audience members!

The culmination of all these musical performances was on the evening of Dec. 12, when the MS/US Vocal Workshop students put on a spectacular show featuring student-created works, amazing soloists, duets, and student-accompanied selections.  Click here to view photos from this talent explosion!
