Homecoming Thoughts from Dr. Johnson

While the Student Government has three faculty sponsors, every US Homecoming event last week was organized 100% by the SGA leaders. Leaving everything in the hands of students provides them with the opportunity to learn how to lead and organize events--an invaluable lesson.

While the Student Government has three faculty sponsors, every US Homecoming event last week was organized 100% by the SGA leaders. Leaving everything in the hands of students provides them with the opportunity to learn how to lead and organize events--an invaluable lesson. In addition, the festivities of the week were a sure-fire way to bring new and old students together as each class had their moments: freshmen beating seniors at dodgeball; sophomores having the best video; juniors winning the tug of war, and seniors winning powderpuff football and volleyball. You will no doubt hear more about these epic wins, not only during this year’s Senior Investiture and Graduation speeches but also for the next several years to come. After a difficult 18 months, Homecoming Week was filled with lots of student joy and happiness!

One senior emailed Dr. Johnson saying, "I just wanted to reach out and say thank you to you and all the teachers and staff for letting us have a homecoming this year. It really did make this senior year special for me. I have been waiting to wear red since second grade and could not stop crying during the parade. Thank you again."
