Brent Bartholomew has long been interested in the law, and volunteered as a defense attorney for Teen Court.  This past summer, Brent took it one step further, spending nearly 100 hours poring over court transcripts and other evidence from a 2019 murder trial.  It all began while he was watching a TV documentary about a Tennessee case in which a young woman was accused of suffocating a 68-year-old man in 2009 using duct tape when she was only 13.  None of this made sense to Brent, a National Merit Commended Scholar, who is convinced she should be granted a new trial.  He told the Naples Daily News and NBC-2 recently, “I also want to raise more awareness about wrongful convictions in general. It’s more common than people would think.”  Good work Brent!
