Our fourth grade students recently participated in an immersive educational trip to St. Augustine and the Kennedy Space Center, connecting their classroom studies to real-world experiences across Florida’s rich historical and scientific landscape.

In St. Augustine, students explored the Castillo de San Marcos, the Colonial Quarter, the Spanish Military Hospital, and the Fountain of Youth. These experiences provided meaningful context for their study of early Spanish influence and pioneer life, allowing students to engage directly with the people, places, and stories that shaped Florida’s beginnings.

At the Kennedy Space Center, students experienced a different dimension of discovery. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to share lunch with astronaut Don Thomas. During this time, students asked thoughtful questions and gained firsthand insight into space exploration and life as an astronaut.

This journey strengthened students’ understanding of both Florida’s past and its role in modern innovation, reinforcing key elements of the social studies curriculum while encouraging curiosity and exploration.
