Ms. Stevens experienced a touching blast from the past in the form of visit from a now not-so-young man she taught from 2000 to 2003 in Choctaw, OK.
Jon McMillan was a star athlete in high school and the tallest player on the basketball court. He was also a record-breaking track star who went on to excel in college sports. What Ms. Stevens most appreciated about him was his friendliness and leadership off the field. Ms. Stevens moved from Oklahoma to Florida 12 years ago and Mr. McMillan moved here three years ago. A mutual friend connected them through social media since they became “neighbors” after their respective cross-county moves. Mr. McMillan has coached locally at Lely HS and Naples HS, and has recently been named CSN's Head Field Coach! He was on campus visiting with Coach Beza when she decided to bring him by Ms. Stevens’ classroom. After 20 years, they had a sweet reunion, as teachers and former students do.
Ms. Stevens then invited Coach McMillan to be a guest speaker for her MS elective, Leadership. His topic was Sports Leadership, and shared stories of his career as an athlete, his coaching philosophy, and what it means to be a leader on and off the field.
Ms. Stevens proudly states, "Welcome to CSN, Coach McMillan."
