On the evening of Saturday, Sept. 28, CSN students, faculty, and parents gathered at RSW Airport to joyously welcome home local veterans who participated in this fall's Honor Flight.
Honor Flight is an organization that takes veterans and guardians from all over the country to Washington, D.C. and back in a whirlwind day of sightseeing and touching remembrance. Upon their return to SWFL, hundreds, if not thousands of local supporters lined the halls of RSW to give them a raucous welcome home. Some of these veterans served in the Vietnam War and were previously denied a real welcome home, which made this event so full of meaning and healing opportunities. Former Chair of the CSN Science Department, Mrs. Betsy Lewton, accompanied her veteran brother on the trip. It was a great evening exhibiting our CSN's core values of citizenship (living with respect) and stewardship (serving with gratitude).
The next Honor Flight event is expected to take place this spring.
