The MS Earth Day Planning elective welcomed Ms. Christal Segura from Conservation Collier, an organization working to acquire, preserve, and maintain wild habitat in Collier County.
Their mission goes hand-in-hand with Live Wildly, our 2024 Earth Day partner. Ms. Segura hosted a booth at this year’s celebration.
Conservation Collier is funded by ad valorem taxes and private donations, and to date has acquired 4,961 acres of land in our county. There are a total of 22 preserves like Pepper Ranch, Railhead Scrub Preserve, and Gordon River Greenway Park thanks to their conservation work. Thirteen of them are open to the public. Other benefits their work provides are protecting rare habitat, improving local water quality, connecting wildlife corridors, working on nature-based solutions, and supporting environmental education.
