A Week of High-Stakes Robotics Competition

CSN recently hosted two high-energy VEX robotics tournaments, showcasing the incredible skills and teamwork of our student-engineers.

Our US Team 94 hosted the 2024-25 VRC game "High Stakes" on Dec. 7. This intense competition challenged teams to strategize by building and programing robots to score points by placing rings on stakes, moving mobile goals and climbing a ladder. With 35 robots, 141 players from 13 schools and 37 volunteers, the event was a huge success.

Team 94 brought home three awards:

  • Design Award: Qualified team for States. Recognizing engineering solutions and the most organized and professional approach to the design process.
    • Seniors Megan D'Souza, Melita D'Souza, Roman Akimov & Wyatt Cunningham
  • Energy Award: Celebrating the team's enthusiasm, sportsmanship and dedication.
    • Sophmores Andrew Ecityan, Adam Deonarine, Mason Malloy & Bennett Talford
  • Build Award: Honoring exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
    • Freshman Harold Hoffmann alongside juniors Taylor Burchill and Grace Cunningham

The excitement continued on Dec. 13 with the 2024-25 VIQ game "Rapid Relay." Our LS and MS teams welcomed robots from across South Florida to compete in a fast-paced game of robot-to-robot passing and tossing balls into goals. With 32 robots, 146 students from nine schools and 24 volunteers, the event was a testament to the growing popularity of competitive robotics among younger students.

CSN claimed three awards:

  • Energy Award:  Recognizing the team's enthusiasm, sportsmanship and dedication.
    • Fifth graders Valentina, Jimmy & Finn
  • Inspire Award: Honoring the team's sharing of ideas and cooperation with other schools.
    • Seventh grader Jack S. & sixth grader Eli M.
  • Judges' Award: Acknowledging the team's exemplary effort and perseverance at the event.
    • Fifth graders Miles, David & John

Coach Sean Headrick led the teams and organized the events.

"We are incredibly proud of our robotics teams and their outstanding achievements," he said. "These competitions not only showcase the talent and hard work of our students but also fosters an affinity for product design and engineering, preparing them for success beyond school."
