Welcome back!

Our role in Athletics for Community School of Naples extends far beyond scheduling and orchestrating games and practices.  Strategically aligning the mission and vision of our Athletic program with that of the school is vital.  Our overall goal for CSN Athletics is to match “Athletic Excellence with Academic Excellence;” and “Forge global citizen leaders of tomorrow through rigorous athletic competition today.”  We believe that athletics provides our students the opportunity to hone leadership skills, test character, elevate confidence and challenge one’s dedication to something bigger then oneself.  We continue to develop a broad-based athletic program that reaches every student, the student body as a whole, faculty, family and fans.  The Athletic program’s foundation is “Excellence” built on pillars of teamwork, leadership, integrity and responsibility.  The aim is that each student participating in athletics faces adversity in a safe but rigorously competitive environment.  Every competitive opportunity provides a chance to lead, follow (win or lose), comprehend the value of leadership and challenges of working within a team while gaining the confidence needed to succeed in life.

During the past school year, the Athletic Department flourished with many successful teams and individuals.  In fact, 10 teams earned a District Champion or Runner-up title, 8 teams went on to Region competition (5 competed in Region Semi Finals) and 1 team made it all the way to the State Semi Final game!  We had several individual student-athletes compete at the State Series level in golf, tennis, swimming and diving, and track and field.  Other individual successes include 10 student-athletes crowned Naples Daily News “Prep Athlete of the Week,” 7 players nominated for “Player of the Year” Finalists and 1 player as a Finalist for the “I AM NIKE” award!  CSN student-athletes earned a record-setting 60 All-State or All-Area selections in 14 of 20 sanctioned FHSAA sports.

Once again, we enjoyed an 80% athletic participation rate for Upper School (US) students on Junior Varsity and Varsity rosters and 73% Middle School (MS) students on a MS team.  In fact, 28 MS student-athletes played on 3 or more teams during the year and 25 of them also maintained above a 3.0 GPA!  Also, this past year, 50 MS students earned either a JV or Varsity roster slot.  In addition, we witnessed 34% of our graduating Seniors earning 4 or more Varsity letters during their high school career while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher!  Moreover, 10% of this year’s graduating senior class earned and accepted the opportunity to compete at the NCAA level at various Universities and Colleges around the nation and 6.25% of them take their talents to the NCAA Division I ranks, which triples the national average of student-athletes able to play at that level.  We look forward to another successful year and encourage all our student-athletes to play, practice and condition throughout the Summer!

Sincerely,
Bart W. Weiss, Colonel (ret), USAF
