Theatre
Middle School Drama is an elective for grades seven and
eight. This dynamic class teaches the fundamentals of acting such as following
stage directions, interpreting and creating characters, and memorizing lines.
Often some musical drama skills, such as dance choreography, are also included.
The most important lessons taught in the class are life skills including
effective communication,
, risk taking, and mental preparation/focus.
The Upper School theatre experience begins
with a class that encompasses the study and performance of
scenes from a variety of theatrical styles. The class focuses on the
fundamentals of stage movement, acting, dance and characterization.
Class members showcase their numerous talents in the very popular, annual musical
extravaganza, Showtime.
As an extracurricular activity,
Upper School students may choose to audition for the fall play and the
spring musical. Rehearsals for these productions are held after school
and on the weekends. Any student who performs or acts as backstage or
technical crew for a show becomes a member of The Community School
Theatre Company.
In the 2009-2
010 season, productions
include the fall play, Fools by Neil Simon and the spring musical,
Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat.
Both the Middle
School Drama classes and Community School Theatre Company perform in
CSN's 284-seat G&L Theater. This beautiful space has
professional-quality sound and lighting systems, dressing rooms, prop
and costume areas and acoustic shells.
