Community Service
Upper School

CSN students are encouraged to participate in a variety of
projects both on and off campus during their Upper School years. In addition to
a variety of ongoing projects that include working with Habitat for Humanity,
peer tutoring and assisting in Lower School classrooms, each grade adopts an
organization to be involved with during their tenure in the Upper School. These organizations include Avow Hospice, the Salvation Army, and
the Guadalupe Center. Upper School students are required to log at least 80 hours of community service for graduation. For specific community service clubs for the 2010-2011 school year, please go to Student Clubs & Activities.
Middle School
The goal of the Middle School Character Education program is to
foster positive character development in an atmosphere of cooperation between
parent, student and school, with an emphasis on community service.
Students at each grade level select an organization with which they
would like to work. Current community service activities include Builders Club, mentoring Lower School students, stocking the Salvation Army's food pantry, and toy and book drives. Through these service
experiences, students are not only able to better understand the needs of their
community, but also learn valuable personal lessons of kindness, compassion,
respect, patience, and tolerance.
Lower & Intermediate Schools
Even the very youngest students work with a variety of charitable organizations throughout the school
year.
Community service projects include relief
efforts as needed, Jump Rope for Heart, K-Kids, and Best Friends Animal Foundation, to
name just a
few. Hopefully this exposure to community
service
at a young age will encourage students to continue their involvement in
serving
the community throughout their adult life.
One of the highlights of each school year is the Teen Angel Project, now in its 6th year. Organized by Upper
School students to provide holiday cheer as well as basic
necessities to families of the Immokalee Farm Worker’s Village, the project involves the entire school. Families are “adopted” by CSN families and healthy groceries, clothing and toys are collected and presented at a holiday party, complete with a CSN Santa.
